To Vegan or Not-to Vegan

Just like any other phase, Veganism seems to have become the latest BUZZ word going around. But how do we know if it's actually any good for us? Where are our facts? How do we know that we're getting the right amount of nutrients and vitamins our bodies need?

Let me provide some clarity for you here...

So what made me choose the crazy vegan life?

Bear with me, it's story time 😃

It was early 2020 when our world was hit by the unforeseen COVID pandemic. With this came the closure of borders, inability to travel, physical social distancing from humans... and a dramatic increase in the amount of home cooking being undertaken... 😂 

It was amidst this turmoil that Tiss too joined the bandwagon and started to experiment with new recipes. Falling in love with a vegan cookbook by Ellie Bullen * Elsa's Wholesome Life *.

I quickly learned the joys of experimenting with new ingredients such as tempeh, tofu, flaxseeds, quinoa...And found the dishes to be incredibly satisfying without the added side effects of feeling too full/bloated/greasy/lethargic afterwards.

I noticed my workouts started to improve, my skin started to clear, my digestive system improved, my mental clarity increased and I no longer experienced food cravings (particularly during PMS time). I simply felt satisfied, wholesome and content. 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️

I'm not sure about you, but when I find a wholesome feeling, it's something that I want to keep around in my life. It's something I chase. 

And so the gradual transition occurred from a couple of vegan recipes a week to full time crazy lady vegan. And I haven't looked back with reget since!!

Now for the facts...

Obviously a vegan diet may not be for everyone...

Some people purely struggle to abstract protein from pulses/legumes and their bodies are reliant on meat. If you are not open to taking Iron + B12 supplements and your body is unable to efficiently obtain Iron from non-hame sources then this is NOT the lifestyle for you.

I don't care how hippie or cool you want to be, an Iron or B12 deficiency is not something you want to be messing around with...I'm talking mouth ulcers, weakness, fatigue, mood changes, breathlessness, dizziness, brittle nails and headaches. Not things you really want in your life as a Wholistic Sister Searcher 🙌

BUT if you play by the rules, then vegan can be one of the most wholesome things you can do your for your body, your soul and your environment.

Here are just some of the reasons Veganism may be for you (All science-based of course😉):



1.  Veganism can help you slim down and keep it toned! Think more fibre = increased satiety = less overeating = decreased weight gain. I mean it's a win-win really. You get to eat more food (as long as it's not refined sugar of course...) and still keep off the Kg's.

2. Vegan's have a 50-78% lower chance of getting type 2 Diabetes. How crazy is that!? Overall the vegan diet was associated with lower blood sugar levels and increased insulin sensitivity!

3. Vegan diets can lower levels of inflammation in the body and increase antioxidant and overall nutrient consumption. We're talking more fibre, more antioxidants, more potassium, magnesium, folate, Vit A, C, E

4. Your gut microbiome may improve. Fibre can work wonders in cultivating healthy gut bacteria, lowering inflammation in the gut and boosting metabolism. 

There are many benefits to going vegan, particularly if you are currently struggling with any inflammatory/digestive conditions. However, this is a personal decision that should be discussed with a nutritionist/dietitian to ensure that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs to flourish.
